Public Education Courses

One of the core services of EMS is to provide up-to-date information to the residents and visitors of Lee County, so they may be aware of their EMS system and have access to information and education to enhance their daily living. Through our Public Information, Education and Relations program, we are able to extend into the community and fulfill this core mission. In line with our mission, these public education courses strive to provide the highest quality instructions through the use of the best technology for the residents and visitors of Lee County, Florida.

Lee County EMS offers the American Heart Association's HeartSaver AED and HeartSaver First Aid. Due to the high demand of these courses and course availability, courses must be scheduled approximately 45 days in advance. It is recommended that courses be pre-paid in advance. Courses not pre-paid in advance are subject to cancellation.

Heartsaver First Aid

The Heartsaver First Aid instruction is designed for the lay rescuer and covers how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. The course includes the three required modules (General Principles, Medical Emergencies, and Injury Emergencies) and three optional modules (CPR, AED, and Environmental Emergencies). This class runs 6.5-8 hours to complete.

Heartsaver CPR & AED

The Heartsaver AED instruction is designed for the lay rescuer and covers information about CPR, automated external defibrillation, barrier devices, and first aid for choking. It teaches how to recognize the signs of 4 major emergencies: heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrest, and foreign-body airway obstruction. This class runs 3-4 hours.

About Lee County EMS Public Education

    · Courses must be scheduled approximately 45 days in advance.
    · American Heart Association Curriculum.
    · Certified Instructors with up-to-date certifications and renewals biannually.
    · Certified Paramedics whose skills are tested on a regular basis in real-life situations.
    · 4-6:1 Student-Instructor ratios. No more than 12 students per course, without prior consent from EMS.
    · On-Site instruction is available. When requested, instructor(s) will travel to a designated location and bring all the necessary equipment (except electricity) to conduct the course. Our site instruction is conducted at our designated training center at 3434 Hancock Bridge Parkway.
    · It is recommended that courses be pre-paid in advance. This will allow EMS to reserve the necessary human and physical resources to conduct the class. Course fees are non-refundable. Payments must be received 5 business days in advance of the class.
    · Checks and money orders should be made to the "BOCC" or "Board of County Commissioners" and sent to the address above.
    · AHA recommends purchasing textbooks prior to taking the course. Books are included in the price of the course.
